Summer 2017 Route
Our outreach of delivering Literacy Packs to schools and orphanages will localized to Kathmandu. After 10 days of working in the schools and orphanages we will travel to Chitwan where we will go on a elephant safari! After our safari we will drive to Pokhara for a few relaxing days of rafting, shopping and swimming before we had back to Kathmandu.
You will be staying in a three-story Nepali home complete with three full bathrooms, two kitchens, and several bedrooms. Each bedroom has a bunk bed set-up. Each team member will have at least one roommate and share the bathrooms with the rest of the team. While the team is staying in Kathmandu, they will be staying here each night. The team will spend about 10 days here. Within five minutes of walking, Home Base is in close proximity to taxis, a market, Swayambhu Stupa, Youth Participation Middle School, Excel Public Secondary School, and Collins Children's Home. The Letters in Motion headquarters is comfortable and inviting-- there are great views from the roof and sometimes monkeys!
Flying to Nepal
Flying to Nepal is not easy. Be prepared to fly over 20 hours in multiple planes. There is a 12 hour time difference when we arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal. We will be flying from Nashville, TN (BNA) to Tribhuvan International Airport.
Collins Children's Home
We will be spending at least two days at Collins Children's Home. You will have the opportunity to get to know the kids at Collins Children's Home by helping them with their home work, singing songs and playing games. One of the most important parts of our trips is working inside of the orphanages. Through out the 14 days we have working in Nepal 7 of them will be spent spending time in the orphanages.
Youth Participation Middle School
On our last Letter Trip to Nepal in 2016 we were able to deliver over 1,100 literacy packs to two public school. On our 2017 Letter Trip we will be going back to both of these schools to encourage the kids about education and to deliver more literacy packs. Each team member will have the opportunity to speak to students from both schools.
Excel Public Secondary School
Excel Public Secondary school and Youth Participation Middle School are only a 10 minute walk from our Headquarters. We will get to see the students while we are walking back and forth from to Collins Children's Home.
